Place de la Bastille, place that must be seen in Paris
The Place de la Bastille should be on your list of places to visit in Paris because it is generally regarded as the place where the French Revolution began, only thirteen years after the American Revolution. In America, it has been largely on free trade, without having to pay taxes to a distant colonial master, and France was on the Freedom from arbitrary arrest for any reason and thrown into prison, and a rebellion against the rising cost of goods due to the imposition of heavy taxes.
You can go to the Place de la Bastille, take the Bastille underground station.
The prison of the Bastille was a particularly bad reputation in the population. On July 14, 1789, after several days of unrest, about 1,000 people stormed the Bastille Although the ranks of the king, were more or less with people, many feared that the mercenaries of the King will attack to keep the king’s authority. Ironically, the Bastille was a success, because a contingent of mercenaries helped the revolutionary discontent with their rifles.
It is, however, considered the day the revolution began, and July 14 in France is commemorated each year on July 4th is celebrated in America.
At the center is a column called the July Column. Nearby, on the Place Henri Galli (which, despite its name is actually a triangle) are pieces of the original Bastille. To see them, simply walking from Place de la Bastille, along the Boulevard Henri IV to the Seine, or take the subway to Sully Morland.
